M&As in FinTech, June 2019 - Overview

Welcome to my new monthly series - M&As in FinTech. Let's start from summary of June 2019. A lot have happened, and I am sure even more to come in the second half of the year! The year of challenger banks, innovations, blockchain, AI, crypto!

  1. Naspers-owned online payments processor PayU is continuing its spending spree, laying out $165m. to acquire Turkish startup iyzico (payments). More.

  2. PayPal invests in another Swedish company - Tink (open banking). More.

  3. H&R Block acquires Wave Financial for $398m. Wave started in 2010 in Toronto, with a focus on simplifying the lives of small business owners. More.

  4. SoftBank confirms $200m investment in Creditas. Setting the company’s valuation at $700 million after the acquisition. More.

  5. Alogent acquires FinanceGenius software (lending). The terms of the deal were not disclosed. More.

  6. Pineapple Payments acquires CardChamps portfolio. Both firms are based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. More.

  7. Software provider Access Group acquires Eazy Collect. The UK firm will expand its payment processing capabilities. More.

  8. Thomson Reuters to acquire Confirmation It will expand core tax, accounting, and audit solutions. More.

  9. Celero acquires Elmhurst and Tandem (2 companies acquired but since acquired by one entity combined those). The acquisitions add distribution and tech-focused organisations to its financial institution partners and merchants. More.

  10. Tieto buys Nordic banking tech rival Evry for €1.3bn. Combined, TietoEvry will have 24,000 employees and annual revenues of €3 billion ($3.4 billion). More.

  11. Phoebus Software achieves buyout backed by NorthEdge Capital. After 30+ years of private ownership, UK-based Phoebus has concluded a management buyout. More.

  12. CGI makes £78.9m all-cash offer for SCISYS. The deal would expand CGI’s reach in European space and defence markets. More.

  13. Trustly to merge with PayWithMyBank. Trustly and PayWithMyBank will combine into a global payments entity with revenues of more than $120 million in 2018. More.

  14. StatPro acquires ECPI research and index. The group will also take on the employees of ECPI, ESG unit in Milan. More.

  15. H&R Block acquires Wave Financial for $398m. It follows Wave’s recent acquisition of Every. More.

  16. CloudBees acquires Rollout to ease feature deployment. Targeting the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) market. More.

  17. SimCorp acquires AIM Software for €60m for data management boost. The Danish investech will include AIM’s solution to its portfolio. More.

  18. Global Payments to Buy TSYS for $21.5 Billion as Fintech Consolidation Continues. More.
